Repairs

Get back up and running. Hell 'N' Back handles repairs of all types, whether small or large, industrial/oilfield, agricultural, or general. We'll also fix other people's shoddy or incomplete repairs.  We offer special rates for small and ag repair.

Welder and blacksmith Doug Thompson's extensive knowledge of the past 100 years of metalworking, including many decorative techniques, means Hell 'N' Back Welding is the best choice to create, recreate, or repair ornamental metalwork such as railings, gates, or furniture for corporate or residential projects. Our shop includes tools and equipment from 100 years ago including anvils, working trip hammers and a coal forge as well as modern artist blacksmithing equipment such as a propane forge. Hell 'N' Back offers unparalleled, old-world craftsmanship, artistic vision, and the skill to make your dreams a reality.

Steel Art
Owner/operator Doug Thompson is a skilled sculptor, specializing in hand carving and forging one-of-a-kind steel pieces. His work has previously appeared in the juried North and Journeys shows at the Alberta Winter Games, at the Fairview Arts Centre and at shows in Grande Prairie. Thompson's pieces have also been given as corporate gifts to people including former Premier Ralph Klein and bestselling author Mel Hurtig. Commissions are welcome.

Blacksmith Demonstrations and Instruction

Blacksmith Doug Thompson has demonstrated traditional blacksmithing techniques at Fort Calgary, the Grande Prairie Museum, and Sexsmith Blacksmith Museum in Alberta as well as at his own shop. He is available for demonstrations at your facilities. We also occasionally offer workshops and courses in blacksmithing. Students learn to make hand-forged pieces using our traditional equipment, some of it over 150 years old, as well as more modern tooling such as the propane forge.
